Birds in Yala

Yala is a paradise, full of birds. Yala is world famous for its easy spotting leopard. Still it has so much more to see. There are 120-130 species of birds mainly.

Raptors including crested serpent eagle, white bellied sea eagle are seen. Many water birds are attracted to the lagoons. Lesser flamingo, Pelican, Spoonbill, Ppainted stork, Black necked stork, Grey heron, Purple heron, Night heron, Egret, Purple coot, Darter are seen. 

During the north-east monsoon the lagoons are visited by thousands of migrating waterfowl, pintail, garganey, white winged blach tern,  eurasian curlew, whimbrel, turn stone, whistling duck, yellow wattled lapwing, red wattled lapwing and great stone plover. 

The forest contain orange breasted green pigeon, hornbills, flycatchers, barbets, orioles and many peafowls
