Introduction to Yala National Park



Ruhuna national park consist of 5 blocks. Block 1 of Ruhuna National Park was established on 25th February 1938. It was a resident sportsmen shooting reserve in 1900. Block 2 was established in 3rd September 1954. Block 3 on 28th April 1967. Block 4 on 9th October 1969. Block 5 on 5th October 1973.

Yala is renowned for itd wildlife variety. Some says it hosts the thickest number of leopards in the world. It is a dry zone tropical thorn forest. Moreover it has a fine coastline associated with coral reefs. 

Large number of important cultural ruins are found in the area. There so many abandoned water systems in yala that suggest us of ancient civilisation which was in this area with number of paddy fields. 

Anyway now it is the homeland for amazingly thick flora and fauna. Never ever forget to visit Yala National Park in your visit to Sri lanka.
